I really love it!

We had seen the lamp in a little light store and it was just what I wanted. Thanks to my hunny for the lamp! It's already getting great use ;)

If ye are prepared...

ye shall not fear.

In our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we have been counselled to keep a year supply of food (among other things) to be prepared in case of emergencies. I found a good article that covers all sorts of ways we should be prepared.

Here is just a quote about food storage :).

"President Harold B. Lee has wisely counseled that “perhaps if we think not in terms of a year’s supply of what we ordinarily would use, and think more in terms of what it would take to keep us alive in case we didn’t have anything else to eat, that last would be very easy to put in storage for a year … just enough to keep us alive if we didn’t have anything else to eat. We wouldn’t get fat on it, but we would live; and if you think in terms of that kind of annual storage rather than a whole year’s supply of everything that you are accustomed to eat which, in most cases, is utterly impossible for the average family, I think we will come nearer to what President Clark advised us way back in 1937.”

Over the years Jeff and I have tried many different forms of storage. This time we have a whole room (small room) dedicated to our food storage. It is filled with lots of shelves so we can see our food and keep it rotating. We are also trying to keep food on hand that we eat often and can keep rotating through our meals so the food doesn't go bad.

I'm excited to keep up on this and have our food ready in case of emergencies :). I'm grateful for our prophets to help us be prepared so that we won't fear.

Trimmed

The master bedroom is still coming along nicely. Jeff's parents were in town (hence all the project posts) and Jeff and his dad got the trim up around our room. I'm so happy!

I spackled it and it just needs a little paint touch up - on the to do list ;).

Now to get curtains.... hmmm.

At least it's the last thing to do!

Extra Blue

After painting the master bedroom I ended up with lots of extra paint. Well, to help figure out what to do with the paint we shared a little with the kitchen. We had a small blue section on the wall that was well... a little more blue than we wanted:

We used to have a blue door, but when we put in a new door we left it white. I missed the blue door, but we couldn't agree on a blue so it stayed white:

With just a little work the kitchen blue toned down to a deep grey blue and plus the door is now blue again :). It is a nice change for our kitchen.

It's nice to have a little change. The rest of the blue paint went to a new home :). Yes, there was still lots left over ;).

Framed!

Now that the master bedroom is painted I started getting our pictures back out to put up. One of the main ones has a blue frame, and now that the room is blue too I felt like it needed an update.

I didn't think much about it till I had started painting it, so this is the back of the frame with the original color:

The trim we are doing in the room is going to be white so I figured a white frame would look nice, plus it would stand out better against the dark wall.

Here is the finished product :)

You can't see the detail so far away so I took a couple close ups to show that I roughed the edges to give it more of an antique feel.

I think it turned out well. I've actually painted another frame since this - this could be a new hobby - refurbishing frames ;)

Another Smartie!

So a while back I did a post called "Smart Kids Wear Glasses" and now it's time to add to my smart kids list... or kids who get to wear glasses, you pick :).

Grant has been having trouble reading the clock from across the room and the hymn numbers in the chapel... these are our signs that the kid is needing glasses. He was checked at school and the nurse sent the note home. Yup, he needed glasses.

He had his apt and within a couple of days his glasses were in. I sent Jeff to the Dr. apt so it was a surprise to me to see what Grant had picked out.

They are actually a shiny silver, but the photo makes them look dark. Sorry for the confusion.
He is happy about them and now the trick will be to take good care of them. Grant is a little rambunctious and so I'm concerned how long it will be before the glasses need repairing.

The master bedroom is progressing still....

We got the blue paint and painted last week!

Now we need the trim, curtains, pictures up, etc. It really does feel so much better now that it's painted. Soon enough it will be finished and really feel like a master bedroom!

I think it's my favorite room in the house right now ;).
