Fencing Scare

We were busy running fence line to set up pen A, when suddenly the corner post broke!  It was quite shocking!  I was right there, but thankfully was out of the way of the break when it happened.  After taking it apart to reset up the H-brace we decided the cross bar was too high.  We got it put back together and finished running the wire.  It was so crazy to see this 10 ft wood post split!  I'm so grateful that everyone was OK!

Lumberjacks in Training

There are a lot of trees on the ranch!  There are especially a lot of old trees!  When we get strong winds sometimes trees fall down.  Grandpa and Talmage found a tree that was swaying in the wind and they wanted to help it along.  They pushed and pushed, and it swayed a lot, but didn't come down.  I was quite nervous it was going to fall on one of them!  Thankfully they were safe, and the tree stayed up.  However, just a couple days later the tree fell down on its own.  I'm sure if they had used the chainsaw their lumberjack abilities would been much more successful!

More clean up!

The pavilion is a handy area on the ranch!  We use it to store the hay, the tractor, and even supplies.  Often things start getting crammed.  Today was clean up time.  I'm sure it won't be the last time, but it was nice to have everything separated out so we can maneuver easier!

Spring Break Demo

Grandparents came to town and it's spring break, that can mean only one thing:  Project time!
We decided to take down the back porch on the small house so we could get ready to reskin the building.  That porch was deteriorating, but amazingly still quite strong!  Talmage was great to be on the roof separating it from the building.  Nathan came out to help too.  By the time we finally got the porch down we had all of the demo left to clean up.  We took out lots of nails and separated tons of boards. There were a lot of nails!  The building looks a lot better with the porch gone now.  Grandpa can now focus on wiring the building for us.  It is nice to have Talmage around for a little bit to help out with these ranch projects!  We aren't sure how long he will be home for, but we will enjoy it while he's here!

Enter Here

We decided to scrape the old paint off the gate at the front of the property.  Once it's all cleaned up, we will paint it out black.  It's been a harder job than I thought it would be.  I started trying to get it down to the metal and Jeff said just to get the loose paint off.  That helped it go quicker.  Using our grinder used up the battery super-fast though.  This project is started, but I'm not sure when we will get it finished (because there are so many other projects to work on!)

Adopted

Our friend, Steve, ended up with 2 great pyranese dogs that showed up on his porch.  They could be great ranch dogs so after a bit of discussion, we decided to take them in.  They really are beautiful dogs!  There is a young girl we named Lizzie, and an older male we named Mr. Darcy.  They are great friends.  We set up a quick dog pen at the ranch and they now have a home.  They seem to love us and especially love attention!

Surprise Photo!

Danyon Gedris works at the MTC.  He sent me this photo of him with Grant! He said,
"I got to catch up a little with Grant today!  It was fun to see him!  He's grown really tall!"

Such a great surprise photo!

Handling Facility!

The handling facility has really come together!  Our friend Chris came over the weekend to help with the welding.  After working with him Jeff was able to finish things up.  It is so exciting to see it finally put together!
Just in time to separate the calves from their moms!
